Tyler Polak Defenseman Creighton Sophomore

Pros

Kicking Power: Polak has good kicking power for a defenseman.

Durability: Has started every game for Creighton over the last two seasons.

Learning Rate: Polak should be able to learn different positions adjusting to different roles on defense.  Polak’s natural position is left back.  Polak has the athleticism to convert to a right back spot on the outside.  I would like to see Polak at the 2012 MLS Combine.  I feel like he has the ability to move inside to center back.  I want to see this in person before I confirm everything though.

Soccer IQ: Has sharp instincts for an outside back.  He can cover well on the outside disabling some shots on the outside forcing your team to shoot on the inside.

Awareness: Polak has the awareness to recognize where the winger is at all times.  Polak makes sure he knows where the opposing winger is.  One of Tyler Polak’s responsibilities is to cover that winger throughout the game.

Intangibles: Polak showcases great intangibles for a leader at Creighton.

Coverage Skills: Polak has great coverage skills for a left back.  Its going to be difficult to get the ball past Polak unless you having an attacking winger with great playmaking ability.

Can Play Left Back: Polak can have an immediate impact at left back in the MLS.  Left Back is Polak’s natural position.

Production: Polak provides excellent production for a left back.  Creighton only allowed 5 goals in 2011.

Potential: Polak has potential to be a great left back.

Cons

Size: Tyler Polak is slightly undersized at 5 foot 8 150 pounds.  Scouts may knock Polak because he is slightly undersized.

My Thoughts On Tyler Polak

Polak has the ability to be one of the most dominant left backs in the MLS when he arrives.  Polak has all the tools to be a prototypical MLS left back despite being slightly undersized.
