Kurt Busch apparently didn’t get enough of his younger brother, Kyle Busch, while growing up in Las Vegas. On Thursday, it was announced they will be co-drivers for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. This will be the first time in a decade the two have driven on the same team. Also announced was Monster Energy Company will be the primary sponsor in a multi-year contract.

Kyle Busch will drive the No. 54 Monster Toyota Camry starting at the season-0pening race at Daytona International Speedway and the first four races through California before balancing the schedule out with Kurt Busch.  The total number of races for Kurt Busch will be about a dozen races, while younger brother will drive the remainder of the season.

Kyle Busch Motorsports(KBM) has been in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since 2010, but this will be the first time it has ventured in stock-cars.

In a press release sent out by KBM, Kyle Busch explained, “Since debuting in NASCAR, Kyle Busch Motorsports has had the goal to add a championship-caliber Nationwide Series team to our organization. With today’s announcement of Monster Energy as primary sponsor and my brother Kurt as the second driver, we’ve accomplished that goal. The Monster Energy team of athletes consists of champion performers united by a desire to be the best. Kurt and I share that same desire and will settle for nothing less than adding a NASCAR Championship to the long list of achievements for one of the strongest brands in the world.”

The team’s primary goal for the 2012 season will be to capture the Owner’s Championship in his inaugural season, similar to the Owner’s Championship accomplished by the team in its first full season in the Camping World Truck Series in 2010.

Kyle Busch said. “Kurt’s never done a full Nationwide deal, he’s always had the itch but never really cared about it. Now this is something for him to get out there and win some races, help bring some banners over here.”

This is a great storyline for fans. Both men are winners, there is no doubt of that. Whether or not the two brothers can behave after the race is another matter. 2012 is definitely a turning point in both drivers careers.

“Kyle has done an impressive job in building this race team and I’m proud to be a part of it,” Kurt said. “He won a Truck Series Owner’s Championship in his first year and his team has kept on winning ever since. Now, it’s moving into the Nationwide Series, where the bar will remain high. His expectations are the same as mine, and we know each other better than anyone. We’re driven to win, and with Monster Energy driving us, we’ll be a tough team to beat.”

Kyle Busch, the all-time winningest driver in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with 51 victories. While his older brother has 12 career starts, with three wins — his last as a fill-in for Brad Keselowski in 2011 at Watkins Glen.

What better way to complement an outstanding driver lineup, then to ensure a strong veteran crew chief in Mike Beam. Beam is a long-time fixture in NASCAR, who has accomplished career victories in all three major series. He has worked with Petty Enterprises and Roush-Fenway Racing.  In 2011, Beam won the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship. He has accomplished 10 wins, 32 top-five finishes, 37 top-10 finishes, and eight poles in his career on the box.
