Every great needs challenges to make them that much greater. Tim Duncan has accomplished so much in his long career that some could even ask, “What’s left”? Well there is always room to grow and improve, especially for a legend of his caliber. These are the five goals that Tim Duncan should set for himself this season.

The San Antonio Spurs' offense hasn’t centered around the offensive production of Tim Duncan for sometime now. Gregg Popovich subtly ushered in Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard as the offensive juggernauts in his well-oiled machine of a system. Despite this reality, Duncan should challenge himself to break his career high for most points scored in a game (53). Not only would this boost his own confidence, but that of his team as well.

In 17 NBA seasons, Tim Duncan has only been overlooked for an All-Star selection three times. Even though today’s All-Star selection process is more of a popularity contest than anything, Duncan should keep these snubs in the back of his mind. His game has always spoken volumes and a 15th All-Star selection would speak even louder.

3. Average a Double-Double

For a big man, the double-double in points and rebounds is a telltale sign you are doing pretty well in the paint. Tim Duncan used to be Mr. Double-double, averaging double figures in points and rebounds for 13 consecutive seasons (1997-2010). Last season, he was 0.3 rebounds away from his first double-double average in four years. With Gregg Popovich managing minutes, Duncan definitely has enough in the tank to get this goal.

One of the biggest goals for not only Tim Duncan, but the San Antonio Spurs as well, should be staying healthy, Duncan, at age 38, isn’t getting any younger and any kind of injury could prove to be treacherous for any repeat hopes this year. The NBA injury bug has already bitten the likes of Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. If Duncan can remain intact, the Spurs will be playing in June.

The ultimate goal for any athlete is to win at the highest level. Tim Duncan has the opportunity to seal his legacy with another ring. He can tie Michael Jordan and surpass Kobe Bryant with a sixth ring. He can leave his mark on the NBA and do what most can only dream about doing once. A championship must be at the forefront of Duncan’s mind and at the top of his list.
