No rookie has ever won the NBA’s three point contest. This year’s draft class has a lot of great shooters who could be the first to accomplish that feat. Here are the top five candidates to do it.

5. Doug McDermott

Doug McDermott is one of the best pure shooters in this year’s rookie class. He has struggled this season with his overall play and shot, but injuries and sporadic playing time helped contribute to that. He is currently injured and may not be back in time for the contest which also knocks him down the list.

Andrew Wiggins was the No. 1 overall pick in 2014 and is the current favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award. Wiggins isn’t known as a great three-point shooter, but he is currently tied for second amongst NBA rookies in three-point field-goal percentage. He could surprise some people and win the contest.

3. Joe Harris

Joe Harris hasn’t played much for Cleveland this season, but he is a great three-point shooter. Harris is currently tied for second amongst NBA rookies in three-point field-goal percentage. Over 73 percent of his field-goal attempts this year have come from three-point range.

2. Nikola Mirotic

Nikola Mirotic currently leads all rookies in three-point field-goal percentage, making 40 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. He is also one of the leading candidates for the Rookie of the Year award in the NBA. The only thing that may work against him is his height. Only three winners in the contests history have been 6-foot-10 or taller.

Nik Stauskas is the best three-point shooter in this year’s draft class. He has struggled with his shot this season shooting just over 25 percent from three-point range, but he also hasn’t gotten a lot of opportunities with his playing time. He would thrive in a contest setting. In 2013, he posted a video of himself making 70 of 76 three-point shots, including 46 in a row. He is a legitimate threat to win any type of shooting contest he enters.
