Kansas Adds Point Guard, Frank Mason Pledges Commitment

Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

Kansas head coach Bill Self has secured his third verbal commitment from the class of 2013.

Frank Mason, a one-time Towson pledge and member of the class of 2012, is currently attending Massanutten Military Academy (VA) and is listed at No. 131 overall within the Rivals‘ top-150. He committed to the Jayhawks on Monday.

Mason will join fellow 2013 point guard Conner Frankamp who committed to the Jayhawks back in July of 2011. Small forward and top-100 prospect Brannen Greene is also pledged to KU for next season.

The news of Mason’s commitment was made clear by a number of media outlets on Monday afternoon and the decision comes following a weekend trip to the Lawrence-based campus.

Sophomore guard Naadir Tharpe will likely see an increase in playing time this season and should provide a veteran presence on the perimeter in 2013 as both Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford will be graduating.

Coming out of Petersburg H.S. (VA), Mason originally pledged to Towson, but did not qualify academically last year. The extra year of school work and play at the prep level boosted Mason’s ability and recruitment. Now, he will have the opportunity to play at the Big 12 level next season.

The 5-foot-11 point guard finished his career at Petersburg, averaging 25.0 points per game as a senior and finishing his career with a total of 1,901.

During his time on the AAU circuit, Mason ran with Team Loaded. His former head coach Ty White relayed the news to the public on Monday.
