The Kansas Jayhawks will have to replace all five of their starters from last season’s team. As a result, players are going to have to step up in the 2013-14 college basketball season and Andrew Wiggins cannot be the only player to do so.
Sure, Wiggins could be one of the best players in the country next year if he meets expectations, but one player does not win a national championship in college basketball. Kansas could easily win yet another Big 12 title with only Wiggins coming up big, but that method will not be so hot in the NCAA tournament.
So whether if it is Tarik Black, Perry Ellis or whoever, someone is going to have to step up other than Wiggins.
However, with Bill Self being the head coach and talented incoming freshmen coming in–other than of Wiggins–this should not be an issue.
If you haven’t noticed, the Jayhawks have kind of dominated this conference over the years, so whatever Self is doing is definitely working. At the same time, if this team plans on competing with Oklahoma State for a conference title, it is going to have to replace all five players from this past season’s starting five on the court. It would probably be a good thing if all five of those players made an impact as well.
On paper though, this is a team that cannot only contend for a Big 12 title, but a national championship.
So although Wiggins is being predicted to lead this team, the Jayhawks should be set in terms of talent.
