The Alabama Crimson Tide are the best team in college football — there is no way around that fact. After beating the Texas A&M Aggies on the road last week, Alabama cemented itself at the top of the college football world. Nick Saban will never get sick of winning.
On the other side of the field, Hugh Freeze and the Ole Miss Rebels are one of the surprise teams of college football thus far. However, some people might not find their success as that much of a surprise as they had one of the best incoming recruiting classes in the nation.
Alabama has one of the better offenses in the nation. Senior quarterback and Mr. Reliable, AJ McCarron, is one of the top at his position in the nation and his two straight NCAA titles speak volumes for the type of success he has had at Alabama. McCarron got his Heisman campaign off to a slow start this season, but following a huge win against the Aggies in which he threw for 334 yards and four scores, he has been at the top of the list. T.J. Yeldon will need to step up his rushing attack moving forward as he averages less than 100 yards per game. This offense has so much potential, but the numbers haven’t quite been there yet.
Ole Miss is led by its own veteran quarterback in Bo Wallace. The gunslinger has 648 yards and four scores through the first three games and has led the Rebels to a 3-0 record after a huge road victory against the Texas Longhorns. This will be Ole Miss’s first true test of the 2013 season as they have yet to play a ranked team and could potentially pull off one of college football’s biggest upsets in recent memory. Jeff Scott will be a big part of the offense when he takes the field on Saturday. He has rushed for 330 yards and two touchdowns on 9.4 yards per carry through three games.
Defensively, the Crimson Tide were once the best defense in college football last season — and after a tough game against the Aggies in which they allowed over 600 yards, the Crimson Tide’s defense is on the decline. However, they still have the potential to be the top defense in college football. Ole Miss has an average defense that McCarron could take advantage of at home.
Ole Miss will travel to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide at 6:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 28. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.
PREDICTION: Ole Miss 21, Alabama 34
