Although the Auburn Tigers won’t be playing in the College Football Playoff, or a New Year’s Six bowl, they have plenty to be excited about.

That’s right, former Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp will now be the defensive coordinator at Auburn. Although he did see some success at Florida, he didn’t see a whole lot of it this past season, which is why he was shown the door. With that in mind, he is historically a much better DC than he is a head coach. So, yeah, big win for the Tigers.

The Gators finished 6-5 during the regular season, but they still managed to only allow 21.2 points per game, which was good enough for 24th in the nation. Not only is this a big move for the Tigers, it was the right choice by Muschamp. Make no mistake about it: He could have been the head coach for another program, but he will have way less pressure as a defensive coordinator.

Now, he will just have to worry about the defensive side of the ball, which has always been his specialty. Auburn allowed 26.1 points per game this season, good enough for 60th in the country. This is a complete win-win for Auburn and Muschamp. As a result, fans can expect the Tigers to be solid for years to come. Not like that was in question, though. Oh yeah, there’s also that fact that Muschamp will get to stay in the best conference in college football, and will make a boatload of money as well.
