5-Star RB Soso Jamabo Picks UCLA Bruins, Texas Misses Out Big Time

The nation’s No. 1 running back, Soso Jamabo, has a new home and it’s where many people thought he would end up as the Plano, Texas, standout chose the UCLA Bruins over the Texas Longhorns.

While UCLA was the favorite, for a long time, to land the nation’s top RB, many people, including me, thought he would choose in-state powerhouse Texas and Charlie Strong. The Longhorns have missed out on a lot of top in-state recruits in recent years and Jamabo is the latest one to go out of state to play college ball.

Jamabo is a great addition to Jim Mora Jr.‘s 2015 class as he also received a commitment from top tight end Chris Clark on Wednesday morning. This offense will remain one of the best in the Pac-12 for the next few seasons — at the very least — with these two NSD additions.

While it’s unlikely Jamabo will get a ton of playing time his freshman season as sophomore back Paul Perkins is returning for a junior year, the incoming freshman will likely challenge for a spot in the rotation.

Perkins finished the 2014 season with 1,575 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground while also catching 26 passes for 201 yards and two scores.

The highly-touted back chose UCLA in light of the humor he imposed just weeks earlier when he told a news reporter that he would be choosing between ITT Tech and the University of Phoenix. At least he has a sense of humor in the wake of likely the most stressful time of his young career.

The Bruins just got a little bit scarier.
