According to reports, the Florida State Seminoles are the new favorites to land Notre Dame Fighting Irish transfer Everett Golson. 247 Sports passed along the news.
“Barring a last-minute change of heart or any influence from elsewhere, [Florida State’s] where he’s headed,” a source told the site.
Golson was previously linked to the Texas Longhorns, but a report surfaced on Monday morning that the Fighting Irish were blocking Golson from transferring to any opponent on the 2015 schedule.
Those teams are the Longhorns, Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Navy, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Temple, UMass, USC, Virginia and Wake Forest.
Georgia and South Carolina have also been in the mix, but a SEC bylaw could stand in the way.
Because of Golson’s previous suspension at Notre Dame, he could be prohibited from landing a scholarship from the team. The bylaw states athletes can be given a scholarship if they were not “subject to official university or athletics disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous college institution.”
It will be interesting to see how the recruiting process finishes out for Golson. Golson will graduate on the weekend of May 15, so an official announcement could be just around the corner.
