On Wednesday, former five-star running back recruit Keith Ford announced he will be transferring from the Oklahoma Sooners football program. The news was first reported from SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuiston.
Ford was suspended from the program indefinitely because of a violation of team rules and academics.
After news of his transfer first surfaced, Ford issued a statement to the media to confirm the news.
“The past 2 years with the Oklahoma Sooners has been a great experience, however after my injury last season I never fully recovered. Since that time I have had a chance to evaluate my role at OU with my family and have decided it is time to start a new chapter,” Ford said in a statement. “Despite what the suspension was about I am currently academically eligible to transfer according to NCAA rules to another university and have been given a full release by OU.
“I would like to thank Coach Stoops and Coach Gundy for all of their support and I wish the Sooners the best of luck next season.”
Ford recorded 369 yards and five touchdowns last season, despite missing five games due to a broken leg.
Despite the issues that are surrounding him, Ford should have plenty of interest now that he is set to look for a new home.
