The 2 week hiatus of Cornhusker football is almost over, and fans are excited to see what is in store for Saturday. A reeling Gophers team versus a team vying for a B1G 10 title, and coming off of their biggest comeback victory in school history. Let’s just say things could get ugly.

Nebraska has also dominated the Gophers as of late, winning the past 14 match ups, though Minnesota does hold the all time edge in victories 29-20. Minnesota has been outscored 103-17 in B1G 10 play so far. Things are probably not going to get better this week.

Nebraska will rely heavily on the running game this week, as Minnesota has been horrible against the run so far this year. In their past two games, the Gophers have given up 580 rushing yards. It is not out of the question for the Huskers to rack up 300 yards.

Another key for the Huskers will be the passing attack. Though this game will not be a shoot out, next weekend versus Sparty will present problems for the Big Red offense. Nebraska should pass the ball to build up Taylor’s confidence this week, so he is ready for a top tier defense in Michigan State. We all remember how Wisconsin went, let’s not have that happen again.

The offensive line should also be able to control the field, and will need to keep Taylor upright. Multiple sacks, or lots of pressure, will not be a good sign. Taylor should have plenty of time to go over his options and determine the best course of action.

I also expect to see Brion Carnes get into the game this week, especially late. He is only one play from being thrust into the spotlight. Look for the Huskers to run the option with him. I would also like to see them throw the ball with him more. Not saying Taylor will get hurt (knock on wood), but if Brion is put on the spot, he will need to be confident in his passing ability to keep the Huskers from being one dimensional.

I expect the Huskers to win this game, and easily. Things could get ugly early if the defense plays well. For those of you who are traveling, may your travels be safe, and the game be well.
