Huskers 2012 Recruiting Class: First Look Part 2
Here’s part two of the four part series breaking down the latest Husker recruits.
Sam Cotton (TE)- As the son of offensive line coach Barney Cotton, much has been said about his signing. He has the tools, but playing high school football in Nebraska is no where near as competitive as playing in the B1G 10. He will have to learn to block better and work on his pass catching ability. He will have at least a year behind Kyler Reed and older brother Ben Cotton.
Imani Cross (RB) - Nebraska already has depth behind Rex Burkhead with the trio of freshmen signed last season, but Cross is bigger than any of them. A bruising back that is not afraid to run people over though he lacks the breakaway speed that could turn long runs into touchdowns. He is agile enough to make people miss, but again, without that breakaway speed, it is only going to be long runs. He may make the field this fall, depending on the situation ahead of him.
Aaron Curry (DL) - Curry is not quite as good as Vincent Valentine, but he has the ability to make plays and get onto the field. Nebraska lacked play makers from the defensive line after Crick left with an injury. Curry had three sacks during his senior campaign, and is rated as a top 50 defensive tackle in the nation. He has the skills to make the field starting next year.
Greg McMullen (DE) - Rated as a top 12 defensive end prospect, McMullen is a big, fast player who can make an immediate impact for the Huskers. He played in the Semper Fi All American bowl this past season. During his four years of high school, he racked up more than 40 sacks and gained all Ohio Honors in all for seasons. At 6’5 and 255 pounds, he’s a big boy who can put pressure on the quarterback.
Avery Moss (DE) - Moss comes to Nebraska just under McMullen in terms of current skill set, but both of them will battle each other to see the field. He’s not quite as big, fast, or strong as McMullen, but he is still a solid player who can make an impact. He is a top 50 defensive end and acquired five sacks his senior year. He probably won’t see the field, but fans can expect good things from him to come.
