This week the New Orleans Saints announced some recent transactions they made to their roster. The Saints signed tackle Hutch Eckerson, cornerback Nick Hixson, guard DeOn’tae Panell, and linebacker Lawrence Wilson. In addition to signing these four players the Saints also waived five other players that were formerly on the roster. The players waived by the Saints include: tackle Dan Hoch, guard Nick Howell, linebacker Stephen Johnson, tackle Phil Trautwein, and cornerback Josh Victorian.

The Saints have made a lot of moves during this offseason and these recent transactions have been another major move by the Saints.  With these additions the Saints have added more depth to their new look defense. However, with all of the new personnel coming in, one has to imagine if the Saints’ defense will be ready by the start of the season. I am confident in Steve Spagnuolo’s coaching ability and hopefully the Saints’ defense will be formidable this season. Let’s remember that Spagnuolo was the architect of the New York Giants’ defense that helped win the Super Bowl back in 2007.

Even though the Saints’ waived some players they virtually replaced every waived player with the new additions. The Saints continue to be wise with their roster decisions during this tumultuous offseason. If there are any critics who feel that all of the scandals are distracting the Saints I would tell them to take a look at all of the transactions the Saints have made this offseason. I think with the Saints’ players and coaching staff they will be fine and have a good chance at competing for a Super Bowl this season.
