Right when it looks like Hakeem Nicks will be returning to the starting lineup, the New York Giants got some bad news when Mario Manningham woke up with swelling in his knee this morning.

Manningham was a full participant in practice all week, so it seems like he should still play on Sunday, but this is disconcerting news for the Giants.

The 49ers boast one of the league’s best defenses, so for the Giants to have a chance in this game they will need all their weapons at Eli Manning’s disposal.

He is already without starting RB Ahmad Bradshaw, so losing Manningham would hurt. Victor Cruz and Ramses Barden will have to step up if Manningham or Nicks (or both) can’t go.
