New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora made some interesting comments to reporters about this weekend’s Wild Card matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

The former Pro Bowler seemed to indicate he was in audition mode this weekend.

“Oh, I’m reeeeeally cherishing this opportunity. Probably more than everybody.”

What opportunity? The opportunity to make some money perhaps?

“Read between the lines, read between the lines. I’m really having a good time. I look around, I come in and just smile. I cherish it, man. I cherish it.”

Could these be Osi’s last days as a Giants? If his training camp hold out is any indication he will be out the door as soon as possible. He was not happy with the amount of money he was being paid at the end of his front loaded contract extension he signed in 2005.

He claimed GM Jerry Reese told him he would give him a raise if he was still playing at a high level, but Reese did not budge this off season. Osi decided to play again, but did so only for his teammates.

Osi can still get after the quarterback with the best of them, but it appears he will no longer be doing that after this season.
