My New York Mets Christmas List

I celebrate Christmas in my household and despite being twenty-five years old, I still put together a Christmas list each year.  However, I don’t mail it to Santa in the North Pole.  I’ve decided to skip the middle man and just give the list to mom and pop.  Unfortunately, I have nothing cool to ask for this year – just money.  It’s going to be a blast watching everyone except for me open gifts, but oh well.  Just because I don’t have anything on my personal list, doesn’t mean there aren’t a few things that I want from the New York Mets this holiday season.

1. Triple-A experience for top pitching prospects – Zack Wheeler, Matt Harvey and  Juerys Familia represent hope for the future of the New York Mets’ rotation.  There is no need to rush them, but if each of those guys can earn a promotion to Triple-A in 2012, it will mean they will have a chance to contribute to the big league club in 2013.

2. More impact prospects – As much hope as the group of pitching prospects listed above (not to mention Jenry Mejia) provide Mets fans, most of us know the fickleness of minor leaguers – especially pitchers.  This is why the Mets need to collect as many of them as possible.

3. Strong seasons by David Wright, Jason Bay and Johan Santana – The latter two are probably stuck in Queens for the duration of their contract.  Both Bay and Santana are likely too expensive to garner much trade interest even if they deliver a strong 2012.  You never know though.  David Wright on the other hand, is a big trade chip and a strong first half could net some impact prospects in a swap.

4. A fourth place finish by the Miami Marlins – This one isn’t really in the holiday spirit, but I just think it would be funny to see the Miami Marlins finish in virtually the same spot that they’ve finished for the majority of their existence.  We might not need much help from Santa or anybody else for this to come fruition because they look like a fourth place team on paper right now.

It’s not a very long list, but we can’t get greedy.  If New York Mets fans could get these four (actually the first three are the most important) things during the 2012 season, most of us would be pretty content.  That’s all I’m going to say for now because we should all be spending the rest of our weekend with friends and family or at least watching some NBA action.
