New York Mets Bring In Ronny Cedeno to Mentor Ruben Tejada
In an important – if not exciting – move, the New York Mets agreed to a contract with shortstop Ronny Cedeno. The one-year deal is still pending a physical, but assuming that goes smoothly it will be worth about $1.2 million with a lot of incentives according to Jon Heyman. The New York Mets were also looking into Jack Wilson and Ryan Theriot before inking Ronny Cedeno. I would imagine this rules Wilson out of anymore consideration, but Theriot could also play 2B so I’m not sure Sandy Alderson is completely finished with him yet. I know that nobody is falling out of his or her seat over this signing, but that doesn’t mean it can’t turn out to be a significant move. Ruben Tejada is still expected to earn the starting nod at shortstop on opening day, but the New York Mets still need to provide him with veteran leadership and provide the team with depth up-the-middle.
