The New York Rangers keep rolling along
The New York Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes by the score of 3-2 tonight in Carolina. The New York Rangers did what for the most part they have been doing all season long which is win. They are the best team in the Atlantic division and the Eastern conference. They for the moment are also the best team in the NHL. The Rangers appear to be built for the playoffs also as they have strong defense and a strong goalie.
The game tonight saw the rangers fall behind 1-0 but then they answered with three straight goals before the Hurricanes scored a late goal to make it a 3-2 game. Artem Anisimov, Marion Gaborik and Brandon Prust were the goal scorers for the Rangers. Anisimov scored at the 8:21 mark of the second period. Gaborik scored at the 14:53 mark of the second period and Prust scored at the 1:57 mark of the third period.
Gaborik scored his 30th goal of the season which was the seventh time in his career he has reached that mark. The Rangers won their third straight and they were without their captain Ryan Callahan. He missed the game because of a bruised right foot. Martin Biron the backup goalie made 21 saves. Henrik Lundqvist the number one goalie is expected to play tomorrow night when the team visits Tampa Bay. The Rangers have been balanced on the road and at home. They have won 21 home games and 20 road games this season.
The Rangers are 26-0-2 when leading after two periods. Derek Stepan had two assists in the game. It was the first game that Callahan has missed this season. The three stars of the game were Eric Staal of the Hurricanes as the number three star, he is the brother of Rangers defenseman Marc Staal. The second star went to Anisimov from the Rangers and the first star went to Gaborik of the Rangers.
The Rangers have a nine point lead in the conference for the number one seed. The Rangers have 19 games left in their season, that is a big lead for them to blow. It is possible that they don’t get the number one seed but not likely at all. The Rangers are also tied with the Vancouver Canucks for the most points in the NHL. They have two games in hand on the Canucks also. The Rangers are rolling right now and will look to continue that. They are looking for their first Stanley Cup since 1994 and only second since 1940. The Rangers may have their best chance in years this season. It should be a fun postseason for this team.
