A couple of days ago, David Waldstein reported that the New York Yankees are close to completing a contract offer to present to CC Sabathia before he is able to opt out of his current deal.  CC Sabathia has 4 years and $92 million remaining on his current contract and has until Monday night (rough estimate) to decide if he wants to exercise the opt out clause and become a free agent.  Most people expect him to opt out in order to secure more money and more years.  Whether he actually intends to seriously explore offers from other teams remains to be seen, but from all indications there seems to be a mutual desire from each party to come to an agreement.  While I do have some minor concerns about CC Sabathia’s workload over the years and his weight, I am confident in his ability to deliver ace-caliber production for the next 3-4 years.  I just hope that the New York Yankees don’t have to go TOO far beyond that.  I like the idea of the New York Yankees trying to re-sign CC Sabathia before he hits the open market and before teams have the ability to drive his price up even higher than what it already is/will be.
