Jim Hendry, the former general manager of the Chicago Cubs is now a New York Yankee.  The New York Yankees brought Jim Hendry aboard as a special assistant to the GM according to ESPN Chicago’s Bruce Levine.  This move reminds me of when the New York Yankees hired Kevin Towers – now the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks – to a similar position in 2010.  According to at least one source, Hendry’s actual title will be “special assignment scout“.  I really don’t think there is much difference between that and “special assistant to the GM”, it’s just two different ways of saying the same thing.  The most important thing is that the New York Yankees are adding an experienced baseball mind to the front office mix.  Not only did Hendry put together some good moments as a GM, but he did so in a huge market.  That experience could very easily become a valuable asset for the New York Yankees.  I don’t see Jim Hendry being a threat to Brian Cashman’s job at all, but it never hurts to add some solid baseball minds to the organization.
