New York Yankees and David Robertson Dodge a Bullet

By now you have probably heard about David Robertson’s injured foot resulting from his “stumble” down the steps. I only say “stumble” because that sounds awfully clumsy. I’d like to think that David Robertson is more athletic and I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt here. The New York Yankees sent him to have some tests done and there was some concern that the injury was one that would require a decent amount of time to heal. It turns out that the New York Yankees and fans can breath a sigh of relief because the diagnosis came back as a bone bruise.

I suppose a bone bruise is better than some sort of sprain or ligament damage. I’m still not quite sure how excited I am to hear that he’s got a bone bruise though. I’m no doctor and I’ll be the first to tell you that I barely managed C’s in biology, anatomy and physiology – just wasn’t my thing…aannd, I didn’t really study as much I probably could/should have. Anyway, maybe I’m just remembering the term “bone bruise” in relation to someone else’s more serious injury. “Results showed that he shredded all of the ligaments in his foot, he broke three toes and, oh yea, he’s got a bone bruise”. If there is an injury like that clouding my memory and subconscious, then perhaps I am too worried about a bone bruise. We’ll have to see.

The New York Yankees can’t afford to lose David Robertson for any extended period of time at the beginning of the season. As the primary set-up man (Rafael Soriano has to earn that title back as far as I’m concerned), the New York Yankees can’t afford him to come out of the gates rusty either. With this news, it appears that rust and time on the disabled list could be avoided. Now that we don’t have to worry about a serious injury, we can get to the bottom of what really happened on those steps.
