www.RantSports.com 2010 NFL Power Rankings: Week 2

Now that opening weekend has come and gone, it’s time to take a look at the www.RantSports.com 2010 NFL Power Rankings for Week 2. Along with the current rankings below, each team displays a number in parentheses to show where they stood before Week 1. Once again, thanks to Johnny Crosskey from BucsPost.com and Jeric Griffin of TheCowboysCentral.com for their contributions for this list. Without further ado, here are the 2010 NFL Power Rankings for Week 2 for www.RantSports.com:

1. New Orleans Saints (3): New Orleans proved it can win a defensive fight as well as the typical shootout. The defending champs are ready to for another title run.

2. Green Bay Packers (2): Despite sloppy field conditions, the Packers came up with a huge opening weekend win on the road against the Eagles. Unfortunately, they lost Ryan Grant for the season–but this team is still loaded with talent.

3. Baltimore Ravens (6): The Ravens’ defense saved them against the Jets, but Anquan Boldin showed why he was a big off-season acquisition. Baltimore’s passing game could put up big numbers this year.

4. New England Patriots (7): New England had their way against Cincinnati last weekend and Wes Welker appears to be way ahead of schedule after tearing his MCL and ACL last January. Surprise, surprise–Tom Brady and the Patriots look sharp.

5. Indianapolis Colts (1): A sloppy loss at Houston scared folks in Indy, but Peyton Manning will come out better than ever this week, and not because he’s playing against his little brother. The Colts will be fine.

6. Houston Texans (13): Well, the Texans took a big step for their first postseason appearance by defeating the Colts on opening weekend. However, they still contain the toughest schedule in the NFL.

7. Minnesota Vikings (8): It’s amazing what no training camp will do to a 40-year-old quarterback. Brett Favre clearly missed Sidney Rice in Week 1, but Adrian Peterson kept Minnesota afloat. Favre better find a rhythm if the Vikings have any shot at the Super Bowl.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers (16): The Steelers first game without Ben Roethlisberger was a success after an intense defensive battle with the Falcons. Once again, their defense showed how much they can carry the team.

9. Dallas Cowboys (4): Penalties plagued the Boys in their loss at Washington. The good news for Dallas fans is that Tony Romo threw the ball well and kept the mistakes at a minimum. Now about that offensive line…

10. Tennessee Titans (18): Sure, it was against the Raiders, but how impressive did Vince Young and Chris Johnson look for Tennessee? It should be interesting to see how they perform against Pittsburgh this weekend.

11. New York Giants (12): Eli Manning has found his new favorite target. The explosive plays by Hakeem Nicks are really going to open things up for Steve Smith and Mario Manningham. Looks like a second 4,000-yard season for the younger Manning.

12. New York Jets (9): The defense performed well against the Ravens on Monday night, but the offense was shut down in all areas. Mark Sanchez threw for just 74 yards and LaDainian Tomlinson led all running backs with 62 rushing yards. Both will have to improve if New York has any shot against New England on Sunday.

13. Miami Dolphins (17): The running game wasn’t fantastic, but it was solid. Decent debut for the newly-acquired Brandon Marshall and Chad Henne could be something special this year.

14. San Diego Chargers (5): Ryan Matthews rushed for 75 yards in his first game, but the Chargers’ offense struggled against the surprising Chiefs. With the Jaguars coming to town (and much better weather conditions), look for Philip Rivers to help his team bounce back in Week 2.

15. Atlanta Falcons (10): Loss to Pittsburgh was deflating for the Dirty Birds. Michael Turner was far from stellar and Atlanta can’t win with Matt Ryan throwing 44 passes in a game. The Falcons have to find a rhythm on offense.

16. Cincinnati Bengals (11): Well, last weekend’s loss was not what we all expected from the Bengals this season. Hard to believe that was last year’s fourth-ranked defense. But, Cincy fans have to stay positive considering it was just one game.

17. Philadelphia Eagles (15): That McNabb trade isn’t looking so great now. Kevin Kolb got knocked out after a sub-par game and Michael Vick almost completed a comeback against Green Bay. Quarterback trouble already for Andy Reid.

18. Washington Redskins (23): A win is a win–no matter what. The Redskins struggled on offense during Donovan McNabb’s debut, but they have to be excited about defeating a Cowboys team considered to be a strong Super Bowl contender.

19. San Francisco 49ers (14): The popular pick to win the NFC West got rocked in Week 1 by…the Seahawks?! Either the Seahawks are that good or San Francisco is that bad. The 49ers are praying it’s the former.

20. Kansas City Chiefs (24): Surprise, the Chiefs looked impressive not only in their first game at a new stadium, but against a Chargers team that has won five-straight AFC West titles. It may have been just one game, but keep an eye on Kansas City as a possible sleeper team for 2010.

21. Seattle Seahawks (27): Seattle made a huge statement by crushing San Francisco to start the season. Two turnovers by the 49ers and a big game from new receiver Mike Williams have the Seahawks buzzing. A win over Denver this week means they are for real.

22. Arizona Cardinals (19): The Cardinals barely escaped with a win against the Rams in Week 1. If they are going to be contenders this season, Steve Breaston–who finished with seven receptions for 132 yards–will have to play at a high-level all season.

23. Jacksonville Jaguars (26): David Garrard only threw for 170 yards, but his three TD tosses were huge in a win over Denver. Of course, Maurice Jones-Drew pounded the ball on the ground. The two of those guys together could be really effective this season.

24. Chicago Bears (22): If it wasn’t for one certain rule (which some believe should be changed), the Bears would be sitting at 0-1 in the NFC North. If the offensive line doesn’t improve, it’s going to be a long season for Jay Cutler.

25. Carolina Panthers (21): Matt Moore was not as good as Carolina expected him to be. The running game was also a bit disappointing, but Steve Smith was as dynamic as ever. The Panthers need Moore healthy to open up the running game.

26. Denver Broncos (20): A loss to Jacksonville was not in Denver’s plan to start the season. Even so, there was no glaring fault in the Broncos’ game that is an obvious fix. That could be a good thing, but it all depends on Josh McDaniel to find out.

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (29): Tampa Bay won the pillow fight against Cleveland and rookie receiver Mike Williams has found a home. Josh Freeman has a new favorite weapon to help open things up for Cadillac Williams. Week 2 presents a tough test from Carolina.

28. Detroit Lions (28): Hard to believe the Lions could (some will argue should) be 1-0 after their comeback fell just short against the Bears. Unfortunately, they have to adjust to playing without Matthew Stafford for a few weeks.

29. Oakland Raiders (25): It doesn’t get much worse in Oakland. A thrashing by the Titans left the Raiders scratching their heads. Jason Campbell wasn’t exceptionally bad, but he sure wasn’t good either. The silver lining was Darren McFadden, who averaged over five yards per carry. If Oakland loses to St. Louis this week, there might be a riot.

30. St. Louis Rams (32): Despite last week’s loss to the Cardinals, the Rams and their fans should be excited about Sam Bradford. He has a lot to learn as a rookie, but Bradford seems to have high potential and is building a solid connection with recently acquired wide receiver Mark Clayton.

31. Cleveland Browns (30): Jake Delhomme’s Cleveland debut wasn’t stellar, but the Browns’ running game played well against a weak Tampa Bay defense. The loss doesn’t bode well for a matchup with the inspired Chiefs this week.

32. Buffalo Bills (31): The Bills have a lot of questions left to be answered–especially on offense. They struggled at home against the Dolphins in Week 1 and looked nothing like the impressive team from the preseason.
