After just two weeks, three teams are already making controversial quarterback changes

It’s been just two weeks into the 2010 NFL regular season and there have already been a few teams deciding to go with quarterback changes.

Not even 24 hours after announcing Kevin Kolb was his No. 1 guy, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid announced Tuesday evening that Michael Vick would be the starter not just for their upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but for the rest of the season.

The controversy in Philadelphia is just one of three quarterback situations throughout the league. Here’s a look at three teams already deciding to make a change at quarterback heading into Week 3.

Philadelphia Eagles: Kevin Kolb vs. Michael Vick

The Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins because they were ready for the Kevin Kolb era to officially begin. Well, that lasted all but half a game.

Apparently, Michael Vick’s performance against the Detroit Lions (21 of 34 for 284 yards and two touchdowns) was good enough to earn him the starting job—even with Kolb 100 percent healthy again. With the problems at offensive line in Philly, Vick is the better choice for his ability to scramble away from defenders. The only thing that’s hard to believe is how this whole situation went down—especially with the contract extension Kolb received during the offseason that guarantees him $12.25 million.

Carolina Panthers: Matt Moore vs. Jimmy Clausen

The Panthers selected Jimmy Clausen in this year’s draft with the hope he’ll evolve into a franchise quarterback. But first, Matt Moore was supposed to at least lead the way in 2010 after leading Carolina to a 4-1 record to end last season.

After two disappointing starts by Moore (21 of 49 for 307 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions), Clausen was named the starter for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It seems a bit early to give up on Moore and throw in Clausen already, but head coach John Fox hopes the move will provide his team with a spark. Unfortunately for Clausen, his first career start comes against a Bengals’ squad that forced Joe Flacco to throw four interceptions last weekend.

Oakland Raiders: Jason Campbell vs. Bruce Gradkowski

The Raiders were finally smart enough to part ways with JaMarcus Russell during the offseason and acquire Jason Campbell as his replacement. But after two games, Oakland has already decided to give Bruce Gradkowski a chance to be the starter.

Gradkowski completed 11 of 22 passes for 162 yards with one touchdown and one interception after replacing Campbell during the Raiders 16-14 win over the St. Louis Rams last weekend.

The move is surprising considering Campbell hasn’t been that bad for the Raiders in his first two starts (30 of 52 passes for 267 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions). Then again, Gradkowski did lead Oakland to two very impressive wins last season over the Bengals and Steelers before his season ended early due to injuries.

Guess we’ll just have to see how this plays out in Oakland.
