Could a 2 QB System be Back in AZ?

In Ken Whisenhunt’s post game conference, it was clear how he felt about his quarterback play.  “We are not getting what we need out of our QB’s right now.  We didn’t get the production that we needed and were gonna take a hard look at it.”

Yesterday’s loss was a heartbreaker, no doubt about it.  However disappointing it was, Whiz might have something up his sleeve.  He did it a couple of years ago with, oh remember them, Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner?  Could the Arizona Cardinals possibly benefit from having situational quarterback play?

In two of the three games that Max Hall has started, he has come out of the gate strong and then struggled.  It seems as if Derek Anderson can’t get it going with the offense if he starts, but when he comes in relief of Max Hall he does quite well.  I don’t know if this can be a distinct possibility yet, but Ken Whisenhunt obviously doesn’t mind thinking outside the box.

In a conversation with Doug and Wolf on 620 KTAR, Whisenhunt was asked what he thought about Derek Anderson playing well coming off the bench, and he seemed perplexed by the idea.  He said that he “can’t say that’s (coming off the bench) his role or that’s what he does.”  But what if that is, “what he does”.

Coach Whisenhunt also plans to talk to the players about who they feel more comfortable with and that the staff is “going to look at what were going to DO against Minnesota and go from that point.”  I think that this implies that the Cards could be looking to exploit situations through their personnel.  I also think that it is a great idea to ask the team, as the team should play better if they are having a say about who they want leading their offense.

Max Hall starts games well and manages the offense better as a rookie then does erratic Derek Anderson.  Anderson has a big arm and can give the Cardinals a boost when it is most needed.  If behind, Derek Anderson can provide the deep threat that the Cardinals are dying for, and Hall can be more comfortable, hopefully not trying to force balls to create offense.  Why not interchange quarterbacks as the team sees fit?

Unfortunately, we have to ask these kinds of questions.  It is time for a decision.  I don’t care if our starting quarterback is quarterback by committee, Hall, Anderson or Skelton for that matter.  Our offense needs stability.  It is improving every week, and despite a few plays, the Cardinals have been in a position to win.  Whoever is to start or play, practice that way and stick with it.  The Cardinal players deserve to know who and what their offense is.
