After watching Jay Cutler play quarterback in the NFL the past few years, if there’s one thing we know about him, it’s that he can be a bit high-strung. He’s been known to lose his temper and his patience with players both for and against his team. Cutler also has been known to be very short with the media after games, especially one’s the team has lost.

I’m not saying he’s not a people person per se, but he surely doesn’t take disappointment well, which is why what he did may not be all that surprising. Cutler asked his girlfriend, Kristin Cavallari, to marry him via a text message. If that doesn’t scream romantic to you, perhaps the next part of the story will make your eyes get a little teary: after she said ‘yes,’ Cutler sent her the ring through the mail. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that! This is the second time the couple has been engaged.

The Chicago Bears quarterback is genius for coming up with a way to propose without the nervousness of getting rejected and smartly did it over the phone, so just in case Cavallari said no, Cutler would be able to blow up and not have anyone see it. Whoever said the art of romance is dead never met Jay Cutler.

Of course, I’m kidding about Cutler’s romantic prowess, and I don’t think any Bears fans care either. As long as he’s winning football games for them, that’s all they care about. If that stops, then he may want to consider a new mailing address himself.

Just don’t expect whatever you send him to be delivered on a Saturday.
