The Cleveland Browns had one of the best players in the 2013 NFL Draft fall into place for them in CB Dee Milliner…but they passed. Instead they went for LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo with the number six pick of the first round. Either pick would have been a great addition for the Browns, and Mingo will bring that quick strong pass rush the Cleveland needs.

Mingo was an absolute standout for the Tigers, he’s got tremendous strength and he’s very long. He’s tall for an end, but has the quickness that you might not expect from someone of his height.
The biggest thing Mingo brings to the table is his speed. He’s got a great burst coming out of his stance, and can speed rush just about any guard out there. However, he’s still raw as far as footwork and in his ability to shed blocks. He could be a starter right away if he completely absorbs himself in his workouts and learning better technique.
The dangerous thing about a pick like Mingo is his perceived lack of attention on the field at times. He’s been prone to chase on misdirection plays and ball fakes, and has trouble recovering.
The Browns have a couple of veteran pass rushers who can help bring Mingo along in Paul Kruger and Quentin Groves, and having that type of mentor coming into camp will be key for Mingo. Cleveland might have been safer going with Milliner to solidify their weak secondary, as they already have some decent pass rushers on the team, but they apparently have been looking hard at Mingo for sometime.
I wouldn’t say this pick will be a bust, but when hindsight rears its ugly head, the Browns might regret passing on Dee Milliner.
