It’s been about a week since former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was linked to the death of Odin Lloyd.
On Wednesday, Hernandez was arrested and consequently released by the Patriots as they made it clear they wanted no part of the situation, while police continued their investigation. At about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder and five gun-related charges.
As the Assistant District Attorney laid out the chilling details, it became pretty obvious that the events that occurred on the night that Lloyd lost his life were premeditated. Prosecutors said that Lloyd had been shot numerous times in the back and chest and say that Hernandez drove out to a remote location, shot Lloyd twice and then stood over him and shot him three more times. Prosecutors also said that Hernandez was upset with Lloyd after the two had an argument at a nightclub a few days before, which stemmed from Lloyd speaking to the wrong persons.
It truly was a gut-wrenching narrative as the prosecution described in detail the events that took place the night that Lloyd lost his life.
However, the prosecutors have not proved that Hernandez was the one who pulled the trigger and don’t have the weapon used, but it cannot be denied that he was involved. I suspect that the two other men that were with Hernandez the night of Lloyds death, have spoken to police, and that’s how the prosecution managed to get so many details.
This is an ongoing investigation, Hernandez is being held without bail and the courts will not release any information that isn’t public record already. Hernandez’s arrest marks the 28th time since the Super Bowl that an NFL player has been arrested.
It will truly be interesting to find out what kind of things Hernandez was involved with off the field and if the Patriots organization, the NFL or anyone else knew about them.
