While he’s been in the league for four years now, Phillip Merling got a majority of his reps in the second half and thus, he’s on this list. Merling had three tackles, two solo, a sack, a tackle for a loss, a pass deflection and a quarterback hit. He had a nose for the football and did a solid job wreaking havoc on the Titans offensive line.
If there’s one thing that the Redskins are finding at the linebacker position, it’s depth. Last night, Roddrick Muckelroy showed that he only adds to that depth. Muckelroy finished the game with three tackles, two solo. Throughout the second half, Muckelroy kept hustling to the football and was around each and every play.
While he got all of his reps in the first half, David Amerson’s age is what lands him on this list. The Redskins top draft pick this past spring, Amerson had three tackles and a pass deflection. He showed great range and solid coverage skills, and has made the Redskins look smart by selecting him.
The Redskins have quite the problem at the quarterback position. They have three quality players that could contest most other starters in the NFL. After the late game heroics that we witnessed from Pat White, the two-year veteran showed that he still has what it takes to make a difference. White connected on five-of-eight passes for 31 yards and carried the ball five times for 33 yards and a touchdown.
While Richard Crawford got a limited role last season, he is once again proving his worth this season. Crawford had two tackles, both solo, and two pass deflections, more than any other player last night. In the fourth quarter, Crawford had a nice play on a jump ball in the end zone that he appeared to intercept, but was called otherwise. Even though he didn’t get the interception, he still made a great play on the ball and broke up a touchdown. Crawford is once again proving that he deserves significant playing time with the first teamers.
