The Philadelphia Eagles turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the 2012 season and after the hiring of Chip Kelly this offseason, everyone was anxious to see who the former Oregon head coach would select as his starting quarterback for Week 1. Michael Vick and Nick Foles have been one of the most interesting quarterback battles to follow over the last couple of week, but after just two preseason games, it appears Kelly has determined his starter.

Kelly named Vick the starting quarterback for the Eagles during the regular season on Tuesday and while there’s been a battle going on for the whole offseason, the news shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Foles has shown plenty of potential over the last two years, but when considering the type of offense Kelly runs–the decision to make Vick the starter doesn’t come as a surprise at all.

He may have struggled at times during the 2012 season, but Vick had the advantage over Foles and Matt Barkley considering Kelly’s offense has proven to be the most successful with a running quarterback. Plus, from an experience perspective, Vick was clearly the better option here, but that doesn’t mean his job is secure for the entire season.

There’s plenty of pressure for Vick to succeed in 2013 as this could be his last opportunity to prove himself as a starting quarterback and now that he’s earned the gig from Kelly–let’s hope Vick can live up to the high expectations and help Philadelphia bounce back this season.
