Seattle Seahawks Over Jacksonville Jaguars; Best Survivor Selections for NFL Week 3

It’s a ripe week for survivor pools with three teams favorited by 10 points or more at home and two by at least 14. The Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos each faced tough matchups weeks 1-2 and all three are probably still on your boards, unless you lived on the edge with Seattle at the Carolina Panthers Week 1.

The question is whether you want to use any of these juggernauts this early in the year. Let’s take a look at the best three survivor pool options on the NFL Week 3 schedule.

1) Seattle Seahawks hosting Jacksonville Jaguars

Initially I thought about saving Seattle’s iron-clad home reputation for an opponent that isn’t the absolute worst team in the league. Then I rememebered that both Denver and San Fran play Jacksonville later in the season, Week 6 and 8 respectively. I like to play things conservative early on before getting a better feel, and also capitalizing while teams are on fire and healthy. And I trust the quarterback with Russell Wilson. These early Jags matchups play right into that strategy.

2) Denver Broncos hosting Oakland Raiders

I passed on Denver at the last second as my No. 1 survivor recommendation. Peyton Manning in primetime seems like a good move every time while Seattle’s Week 3 matchup, amid a tough opening 10 games, drove Denver down to No. 2. There is also a slight buzzing about my head from how sneaky-dangerous Oakland’s defense and Terrelle Pryor might be this season. We haven’t seen Denver against a mobile quarterback without Von Miller.

3) San Francisco 49ers hosting Indianapolis Colts

I’m absolutely sold on San Fran’s ability to rebound from losses by crushing someone; that “someone” here being the less-than-physically-imposing Colts. San Fran probably runs on them all day. The threat here is more of an earned one than with the Raiders, as when Andrew Luck combines his play-extending brilliance with a lack of crazy throws, we know this offense can become downright scary.
