The Green Bay Packers came away with a huge road win against the defending world champion Baltimore Ravens yesterday at M&T Bank Stadium. It was a defensive battle throughout most of the first three quarters but in the end, the Packers prevailed to a 19-17 victory.
A big reason for the win was rookie running back Eddie Lacy. Coming off a 94-yard performance against the Detroit Lions last week, Lacy came back with a 120-yard performance against a defense that is very stout against the run.
Lacy was exactly what the Packers ordered and he showed his aggressive running style early in the game. On the first two plays from scrimmage, Lacy gained 47 yards and showed that not only is he physical, but he also has some agility and speed.
After the game, Lacy was clearly excited about the win and his performance. However, he didn’t take all the credit, giving kudos to his offensive line after the game. It has been clear from the onset that Lacy is a perfect fit for the Packers system. He is a true professional and is a player who works hard to become better than the week before.
Head coach Mike McCarthy finally went to more I-formation and offset I-formation looks to get Lacy running downhill, and it worked out well against the Ravens.
The Packers will look to continue their winning ways against the Cleveland Browns at Lambeau Field next weekend, and fans should expect more touches from Lacy. His role in the offense is much needed for the Packers and if he can continue to run hard and protect the ball, it will add a balance to the offense and finally give McCarthy more options than just relying on the arm of Aaron Rodgers.
