The Houston Texans may be sitting with their backs against the wall after four consecutive losses. However, it is certainly not an invitation for the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs to take them for granted. The Chiefs will have their hands full in several areas, with the run game being one of them. There is no question Houston or Kansas City’s rushing attack will directly result in a victory for either team on Sunday.

As good as the Chiefs have been on defense this season the run game has certainly been an issue. Kansas City ranks 23rd in the NFL as they have allowed opponents to rush for 116.7 yards per game, while Houston has averaged 136.8 yards per game on the ground. On the flip side, the Chiefs have done a decent job running the ball this season as they have recorded 119 yards per contest. Run defense has been the Texans’ biggest flaw as they have allowed 121.5 yards per game.

The fact that both teams excel in pass defense (Houston ranks first, Kansas City ranks third) means that the battle will be won in the trenches. Whoever can get more push and move the chains more frequently on the ground will assuredly have the upper hand.

The Chiefs have to hope their loyal fan base will arrive at Arrowhead Stadium loud and ready. The deafening crowd noise could a major difference in the game. The hope is that the yelling will be too loud for the Texans to hear each other on certain running plays, which could screw up the offensive line in their blocking schemes.
