Michael Vick Should Start For New York Jets After Latest Geno Smith Debacle

After the latest offensive debacle, the New York Jets need to bite the bullet and start Michael Vick. While the veteran has a history of making trouble in this league, Vick is simply a better player than Geno Smith. Although Vick isn’t a good NFL quarterback by any means, the Jets need a shot in the arm and starting Vick would give this team some kind of energy.

It hasn’t been pretty so far for the Jets in the 2014 NFL season. Despite starting the season 1-3, head coach Rex Ryan believed that this team could go on the road and beat the red-hot San Diego Chargers.

Instead, the Jets didn’t even score a point, which means the Jets are the first and only team to be shut out so far this season. To juxtapose how bad they were on offense today, the Jets didn’t have a snap in San Diego territory until 7:35 to go in the fourth quarter, and that was only because of a pass interference penalty.

After a terrible half where Smith only completed four passes out of 12 attempts for 27 passing yards and an interception, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg made the quarterback change. Something quick to note is that Mornhinweg has been coaching Vick since their days together back with the Philadelphia Eagles. Sure, the Jets do not have a lot of talent at the skill positions, but there is no excuse for Smith’s inability to move this offense down the field.

This season looks lost for the Jets. In fact, it might be time to look to the 2015 NFL Draft for a franchise quarterback. With one of the best defenses in the league, this offense is holding them back. Owner Woody Johnson said that there won’t be a coaching change this season, so making a change in that regard apparently isn’t an option.

In order to prevent fans from revolting, the Jets need to switch things up a little and see what they have in Vick. It can’t get much worse right now for this Jets offense.
