Power Ranking the Top 15 NFL QBs After Week 6

It was a wild week in the NFL, and many quarterbacks are starting to separate themselves from the pack with touchdowns, passing yards and victories. That third one tends to carry the most importance. You will find some of the usual suspects on this list, however, you will also see some names that might surprise you. Here are my top 15 QBs through Week 6.

15. Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins has shown flashes of potential in his time with the Washington Redskins, and he is not the main reason D.C. is 1-5 on the season. A healthy Robert Griffin III would no doubt show up on this list, but Captain Kirk instead makes an appearance after averaging 8.36 yards per attempt this year.

Andy Dalton will slide out of these rankings next week after another game without star receiver A.J. Green, and the QB makes this list mainly for keeping Cincinnati at the top of a loaded AFC North Division.

13. Jay Cutler

Good Jay Cutler showed up against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday and led the Chicago Bears to victory, but he still has time to implode their playoff hopes and turn into bad Jay Cutler.

12. Nick Foles

Nick Foles does not have overly impressive numbers, however, he has led his team to five victories this season and could end up helping them win the NFC East at the year's end. He needs to throw fewer interceptions going forward.

11. Drew Brees

Drew Brees ranks No. 2 overall in completion percentage, but his team needs more wins in order to climb this list. He has the potential to turn things around and should improve his other metrics as this season progresses.

10. Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford makes this list for keeping the Detroit Lions tied with Green Bay at the top of their division, even though Calvin Johnson is going through some injury trouble. Stafford has not been the greatest player statistically, but the Lions can live with a 4-2 record so far.

9. Cam Newton

Cam Newton has the Carolina Panthers leading their division, however, he better watch out for a late surge by the New Orleans Saints. You can tell he misses Steve Smith Sr. as a deep threat.

8. Joe Flacco

Joe Flacco's five TDs yesterday delighted many fantasy owners, and we will have to see if this is the precursor of another Super Bowl run for Baltimore. I don't see that happening.

7. Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson showed against the Washington Redskins that he is the NFL's best scrambler, but he got humbled yesterday after throwing a late interception that sealed things up for Dallas. The Seattle Seahawks are still defending champions though, until some other team takes the belt.

6. Tony Romo

Tony Romo has made more highlight reel throws than any other QB on this list, and he showed up huge against the Seattle Seahawks yesterday in what could have been a preview of the NFC Championship game.

5. Tom Brady

Tom Brady ranks this highly due more to reputation than production. He had a rough start this season, but he appears to be knocking the rust off and should have the New England Patriots back in the playoffs by the time January rolls around.

4. Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers leads the NFL in passer rating with 117.6. He also has the San Diego Chargers looking like a championship contender, and the quarterback could rewrite his own narrative with a deep playoff run and a Super Bowl victory.

3. Andrew Luck

You could make a case for Andrew Luck to top this list, however, he loses points for the Indianapolis Colts dropping their first two games this season. He leads the NFL with 1,987 passing yards and 17 TDs.

2. Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has 15 TDs to only one interception this year, and no touchdown was more important than the go-ahead score against the Miami Dolphins yesterday. His fake snap on that drive showed us that he is our era's Dan Marino, but with a ring on his finger.

The fact that Peyton Manning tops this list should surprise no one. He has only been sacked six times this season and has posted a QB rating of 110.5 so far, however, the most impressive thing about the former Tennessee Volunteer has been his poise in the pocket. He is only two touchdowns away from Brett Favre's career record.
