Cincinnati Bengals’ A.J. Green is Picking Up Right Where He Left Off

AJ Green Week 9 return

Going into Week 9 of the NFL season, many people including myself were questioning whether Cincinnati Bengals’ WR A.J. Green would be a factor against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coming back after a toe injury, I thought he would be used very sparingly and be virtually a non-factor in this Bengals offense.  Green put those questions to rest Sunday, showing that he hasn’t lost a step.

Although, he was limited to only 3 catches, he was still able to rack up 44 yards and a touchdown in the game.  He would have had two TDs if a penalty hadn’t called one back. As expected, Green wasn’t targeted quite as much as he usually is with Andy Dalton only throwing to him six times in the game. But the important part is that he made it count, as the elite NFL receivers do.

After the game Green claimed that he “felt a little rusty” after missing about a month of action with that nagging toe injury. This should be considered a warning to future opponents. After all, 44 yards and a touchdown doesn’t sound too “rusty” to me. Now that he’s got the rust out of his system he will continue to become more of a factor in each upcoming game. I think we’re in for a show from  No. 18 in the weeks ahead.

Also, with the emergence of Mohamed Sanu and his huge playmaking ability, especially in Green’s absence, they have another receiver they can count on. Once Sanu and Green are both at full speed, this offense may be unstoppable, which could prove to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. It probably feels like a lottery win for Dalton, having this dynamic duo to throw to every game.
