New York Giants Facing a Formidable Jacksonville Jaguars Defense

Do not let the 1-10 record fool you for a minute — the Jacksonville Jaguars may be tied for the worst record in the NFL, but they have a defense that can and will cause problems this week for the New York Giants.

It almost seems unfathomable that the Jags are ranked first in the league in red-zone defense and have amassed a total of 33 quarterback sacks so far. Defensive end Chris Clemons is the marquee name of the unit and has seven sacks. Ryan Davis has 5.5 sacks and Sen’Derrick Marks five.

Not taking anything for granted, Eli Manning is well aware of what his next opponent is capable of doing, regardless of what the standings say. The Giants’ quarterback commented after a recent practice to the team’s website:

“They are pretty talented defensively. Their front four, they get a lot of sacks. They are big up front. Their linebackers can really run. They have a good scheme; they get after some teams. They get after the quarterback.”

At 3-8, the Giants need to win this game just for their own psyche and to snap their six-game skid. Their makeshift offensive line may have trouble with the Jacksonville front seven but needs to do their job and come together as a unit fast. Whatever needs to be done to compensate for the strong Jaguars pass rush has to take place. Two tight ends sets, leaving an extra back behind to block or rolling Manning out early – any or all of the above.
