By now, it appears Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is the clear favorite to accept the recently opened head-coaching job for the Denver Broncos. Of course, he cannot accept anything unless it is offered. The good news for the Broncos is that Kubiak has stated he is willing to take the Broncos’ coaching job if it becomes open to him.

One of the big reasons it is assumed Kubiak will get the job is because of the relationship he has with Broncos president of football operations John Elway. Kubiak was the Hall of Famer’s backup for nine years and the two were roommates when the team traveled for road games. Four years after Kubiak retired, he became Denver’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for 10 years, some of which was when Elway was still the team’s signal caller.

As of right now, there is no word on if the Broncos will offer Kubiak the job. Of course, no one will know that until Tuesday, when the team is likely to make an announcement regarding the head coach position.

A main reason why Denver is interested in Kubiak is due to what he has accomplished since being the head coach of the Houston Texans. More specifically, what he achieved as the offensive coordinator of the Ravens this past season.

Baltimore’s offensive numbers were rather impressive during the regular season, at least considering the team has always been known more as a defensive threat. In 2014, the Ravens ranked 13th in the league in passing yards per game (238.7) and eighth in rushing yards per game (126.2). They also ranked eighth in points per game (25.6).

A mixture of Denver’s talented roster and Kubiak’s offensive football intelligence should mean the team would not see much of a drop off next season, assuming Peyton Manning remains the quarterback.
