The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t done adding wide receivers to the roster. Free-agent addition Jeremy Maclin is a hefty upgrade from Dwayne Bowe, but that difference alone doesn’t put the Chiefs anywhere close to where they need to be with wide-receiver talent.

Kansas City missed out on a great crop of wideouts in the 2014 NFL Draft, and that can’t happen again this year. The Chiefs need to select a wide receiver at least within the first three rounds, but the first round would be best. Breshad Perriman out of the University of Central Florida would be a great way to go with the No. 18 overall selection.

Though Perriman couldn’t work out at the NFL Combine, he made up for it with an astounding performance at UCF’s pro day. He was hand-clocked in the 40-yard dash with times ranging from 4.19 to 4.27. Even the high end of that range is remarkable, especially considering his 6-foot-2, 212-pound frame.

Perriman would be the perfect addition to Alex Smith’s arsenal. With his size and speed, Perriman could stretch out the defense, while giving Smith a big target to throw to downfield. While Smith doesn’t like to throw deep, he needs to do it more often, and Andy Reid wants to make it a priority. Perriman could definitely make the Chiefs’ transition to a more aggressive attack a much smoother one.

The young playmaker averaged 20.8 yards per catch, and racked up 13 TD grabs over his last two seasons at UCF. His upside is every bit as high as Dorial Green-Beckham’s without carrying the big risk. Unless Amari Cooper or Kevin White somehow drop to No. 18 (they won’t), the Chiefs should snag Perriman at No. 18, if he’s available.
