The San Francisco 49ers went from having one of the deepest rosters and strongest coaching staffs to a complete rebuild in about a year. They have holes in their defense and need to figure something out at quarterback. Here are five star players that they should consider trading for in 2016.

They need a boost in their pass rush, and the Kansas City Chiefs have depth at outside linebacker. Hali is a little older, but the team could use his veteran presence on defense.

The 49ers have cap space to improve their secondary, and could add a good cornerback in Haden. He has struggled with injuries this year, but remains a very good option when healthy.

3. Sheldon Richardson

The 49ers must improve their run defense, and Richardson would give them an elite option on the line. The New York Jets have to make some decisions along their defensive line, and Richardson could be a player that they move on from.

2. Calvin Johnson

Trading for an expensive, aging option at wide receiver might not make a lot of sense, but the organization might need to make some bold moves to inject excitement into the franchise while they rebuild. Johnson is still a dangerous player who teams must game plan around, and would help whoever plays quarterback.

Brees is another expensive option, but the team could have money to spend next offseason. They could still draft a quarterback early and have him sit behind Brees, whose work ethic is legendary. He is still good enough to make everyone around him better.
