San Francisco 49ers Choose Chip Kelly To Become Next Head Coach

By Jason Fletcher

Following his meltdown with the Philadelphia Eagles, and subsequent firing, Chip Kelly has found a new job. According to multiple reports, Kelly has been named as the San Francisco 49ers‘ head coach and will take over a team that finished 5-11 in 2015.

I’ve taken shots at general manager Trent Baalke on multiple occasions for his lack of ability to put together a competitive roster and keep a competent head coach, but I believe this is a brilliant hire for the 49ers. With Kelly’s offensive system, Colin Kaepernick could actually become a dynamic quarterback once again.

Kelly’s offense is built around misdirection and the option game which ends up allowing wide receivers to have one-on-one matchups and gives the quarterback a lot of one-read options. Kaepernick’s biggest weakness in the past was his inability to read through his progressions, so Kelly’s system will help make him more comfortable. Not to mention, his ability to make big plays with his legs which will automatically make the 49ers’ offense dangerous.

While Kaepernick and Kelly are the perfect marriage, the 49ers do need to find some receivers, help on the offensive line and another running back to limit some of the load on Carlos Hyde. If Baalke and Kelly can have a successful free agency and draft, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see the 49ers in the playoffs in 2016.
