2016 NFL Draft: San Francisco 49ers Pre-Combine Seven-Round Mock

By Jason Fletcher

The San Francisco 49ers are a team with no real direction. Last offseason, general manager Trent Baalke let head coach Jim Harbaugh walk because of the poor relationship between the two and hired defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to take over. After a disappointing 5-11 season with a depleted roster, Tomsula was fired and replaced by new head coach Chip Kelly. Baalke and Kelly will now team together to try and hit a home run in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Here’s a recent seven-round mock draft I did for the 49ers using FanSpeak’s mock draft simulator.

Round 1, No. 7 Overall: QB Jared Goff, California

It remains to be seen whether Kelly will hold onto Colin Kaepernick at quarterback, but either way, Goff should be the choice here. He's the top quarterback in the draft and could be the perfect fit for Kelly's system.

Round 2, No. 37 Overall: TE Hunter Henry, Arkansas

It's possible that the 49ers are happy with Vance McDonald at tight end, but Henry is a better pass-catcher and more explosive option. He would add another level to the team's passing game.

Round 3, No. 68 Overall: WR Tyler Boyd, Pittsburgh

Anquan Boldin is a free agent which makes grabbing that possession receiver a priority for the 49ers. With Torrey Smith blowing the top off the defense on the other side of the field, Boyd would have plenty of room to work underneath.

Round 4, No. 106 Overall: G Sebastian Tretola, Arkansas

Left guard Alex Boone is a free agent this offseason, and even if the team is willing to bring him back, Tretola could start over Andrew Tiller at right guard.

Round 4, No. 133 Overall: DT Hassan Ridgeway, Texas

Starting nose tackle Ian Williams is a free agent which opens up a hole in the middle of the defensive line. At 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds, Ridgeway would fill that hole and then some.

Round 5, No. 142 Overall: CB KeiVarae Russell, Notre Dame

Russell is one of the few late-round cornerbacks who I believe can be a starter in the NFL. With the 49ers' lack of depth at the position, it could easily happen in the Bay Area.

Round 5, No. 145 Overall: WR De'Runnya Wilson, Mississippi State

Wilson may run more like a tight end at the 2016 NFL Combine, but he could be a vital red-zone threat for the 49ers. At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Wilson could be a big target for Goff or Kaepernick.

Round 5, No. 174 Overall: OT Fahn Cooper, Ole Miss

Laremy Tunsil is the Ole Miss tackle who's getting all the attention, but Cooper played well in 2015 and impressed scouts at the 2016 East-West Shrine Game. He may not be a starter right off the bat, but he should make the roster.

Round 6, No. 181 Overall: RB Tyler Ervin, San Jose State

Carlos Hyde will be returning from a foot injury, but the depth behind him is atrocious. Adding Ervin would provide speed in the backfield and give the 49ers a reliable option in the return game.

Round 6, No. 210 Overall: K Roberto Aguayo, Florida State

Typically I don't advise spending a draft pick on a kicker, but Aguayo's the best to come along in a while and the 49ers have four sixth-round picks so they can afford to use one. With Phil Dawson becoming a free agent, it makes perfect sense.

Round 6, No. 211 Overall: G Kyle Friend, Temple

As I mentioned earlier, Boone is a free agent and adding offensive line depth is a must for the 49ers. Friend can play both guard and center and would be a valuable piece to add to the team's offensive line group.

Round 6, No. 213 Overall: OT Tyler Marz, Wisconsin

Marz was the anchor of Wisconsin's offensive line in 2015, and he could be a solid late-round pick for the 49ers who aren't exactly deep at the position behind Joe Staley.
