Steve Filer’s season appears to be over, according to a few sources at Notre Dame’s Scout web site. Filer appears to have a torn ACL of his knee which will end his 2011 season and his career in South Bend being that he is a senior with no eligibility left.

Filer came to South Bend full of promise. Recruited in the 2008 class, Filer was ranked as one of the best linebackers in the country and was expected to have a great career in blue and gold, but for whatever reason, it never materialized. Over his four years in South Bend, Filer had only a total of 32 sacks and a lone sack that came back in his sophomore season.

The injury to Filer means that two youngsters, Troy Niklas and Ishaq Williams, could see an increase in playing time behind starters Prince Shembo and Darius Fleming at outside linebacker. Niklas has a total of 12 tackles in his freshman season while Williams has only three and has seen his playing time go down in recent games.
