This year’s Heisman winner, Robert Griffin III, will be playing football next season at the pro level, according to Joe Fortenbaugh of NFLPost.com.

Griffin’s decision comes a week or so after another top quarterback prospect Matt Barkley announced that he will return to USC for his senior season in 2012. The big announcement comes a couple days after RGIII threw for 295 yards and ran for another 55 in Baylor’s 67-56 over Washington Alamo Bowl.

Heading into the season, not a lot of people were discussing Griffin as a Heisman hopeful. After his first three games of the season though against TCU, Stephen F. Austin and Rice, where the 21-year-old threw 13 touchdowns without a single interception, he would soon become one of the top candidates for the award.

RGIII finished off his senior season completing more than 72 percent of his passes for just under 4,300 yards to go along with 37 touchdown passes and only six picks.

With his big season and capping it off with a great performance against the Huskies, Griffin is shooting up many boards for April’s draft. WalterFootball.com has him going to the Cleveland Browns at #5 while DraftCountdown.com has him going to the Miami Dolphins at the eighth position.

Wherever he goes, RGIII will more than likely be the #2 quarterback taken with Barkley now out of the picture.
