Philadelphia Eagles Reportedly Interested in Trading Up for #4 Pick in 2012 NFL Draft
The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly interested in trading up for the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.
It’s a virtual lock that Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck will head to the Indianapolis Colts as the number one overall pick, and Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III will head to the Washington Redskins as the number two overall pick.
The Minneosta Vikings have the third overall pick and they will probably select USC tackle Matt Kalil. They drafted FSU quarterback Christian Ponder in the first round of the 2011 draft. He struggled in his rookie season, but so did the entire Vikings team, and Ponder is still expected to be the future of the franchise.
The Cleveland Browns have the fourth pick. They like Texas QB Colt McCoy, even though he hasn’t done much during his first two seasons in the league. They have a terrible offense and could improve at literally ant position. They also have two first round picks (4, 22) so trading the fourth overall pick would make sense.
The Eagles are rumored to be one of the teams interested in trading up for that pick, along with the St. Louis Rams and two other unknown teams.
The Eagles have the 15th pick in the first round this year, as well as the 46th and 51st pick in the second round.
They already had a private workout with Tannehill. They also have a 32-year old quarterback who, despite receiving a $100 million contract last September, may not be around in 2013 if head coach Andy Reid is fired.
But I don’t think Tannehill is a good enough quarterback for the Eagles to move up to the fourth pick in the first round. The Eagles are a very good team that is just one elite player away from becoming a Super Bowl team, so why not use their first round pick for a player who can help them win now?
I also don’t think the rumors of the Eagles trading up to the number four pick are real. The Eagles and the Browns always likely to work together, because Browns’ GM Tom Heckert used to be on the Eagles. I consider the Browns to be the Eagles’ minor-league team, and Reid may just be trying to help the Browns increase their value for the number four pick.
