According to the new collective bargaining agreement, Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters will lose part of his 2012 salary because he was placed on the non-football injury list and was not injured at a team facility.

Peters’ injury came in an offseason workout program but it doesn’t change the fact that he will still lose money. (Ironically, if Peters had been injured at the NovaCare Complex, the Eagles would have been forced to pay him all of his salary.)

As a result, the Eagles will dock $3.25 million from Jason Peters’ 2012 salary of $7.9 million. The $3.25 million is what the Eagles will be paying Demetress Bell, Peters’ replacement for the 2012 season.

The Eagles actually were not obligated to pay any part of Peters’ salary for the 2012 season, according to the new CBA, but the Eagles know the importance of Peters to their team and want him fully motivated to come back for the 2013 season.

The Eagles have already discussed the financial reduction with Peters and his agent, Eugene Parker, according to a league source.

Peters originally tore his Achilles on March 27th. He underwent surgery and was expected to miss the entire 2012 season.

The Eagles acted quickly and signed former Buffalo Bills left tackle Demetress Bell to take the place of Peters. Bell was the best available free agent tackle.

Last week, the Eagles found out that Peters had ruptured his Achilles–the same one–a second time, after the device he was using broke while he was in his kitchen. Peters underwent another surgery and he is now all but 100 percent certain to miss the entire 2012 season.

Peters has announced that he is suing the maker of the Roll-A-Bout device that malfunctioned while he was using it.
