The Philadelphia Eagles have experienced a mounting list of injuries so far in training camp.  Luckily for the Eagles, the majority of those injuries are not serious, keeping players out only a few weeks.  Riley Cooper is one of the members of the team to have a more serious injury; a fractured collarbone that should keep him out until at least the first week of the 2012 NFL season.  The silver lining to these injuries is that other players are getting repetitions and experience that they otherwise would not have gained without the player(s) ahead of them on the depth chart getting dinged up.

Wide receiver Marvin McNutt, the Eagles 6th round pick out of Iowa, is one of the players making the most of his opportunity.  Early on, during the rookies and selected veterans camp, many thought that McNutt would have a difficult time making the team due to the fact that he was getting beat by the opposing corner back on just about every play; including getting jammed at the line and not being able to get any separation down field.  Once the pads were on, however, something clicked in McNutt and he has seemed like a different player; like the player the Eagles were hoping for when they drafted him.  He finally started taking advantage of his 6’2 216 pound body and putting himself in position to make catches over smaller corner backs.

As with the majority of rookies, McNutt will be playing on special teams, as well.  His performance there will help to dictate how much time he sees on the field, including on the offensive side of the ball in Cooper’s absence.  While he came into camp fighting for a spot on the 53 man roster, it now appears that McNutt will make the squad, and is now fighting for playing time.
