With the Philadelphia Flyers‘ first preseason game on the horizon, it is always a good time to talk about what any fan loves to discuss with his buddies, the best possible line combinations for his favorite team. Today begins a short series of discussions reviewing candidates for each line combo and the best possible line. Candidates will be selected by position, chemistry with another player, as well as raw skill.

The Flyers’ have a significant amount of candidates to play the first line this year, but only three can be chosen.

Let’s look at who will be the best candidates for this line, as well as their stats from a year ago.

Claude Giroux: Last season, Giroux was superb, to say the least. He was able to take his game to a whole other level. In 77 games, Giroux had 93 points which included 28 goals and 65 assists. His first round performance against the Pittsburgh Penguins has given fans a brief glimpse of how great Giroux can be.

Scott Hartnell: Hartnell had the best all-around season of his career in 2011-2012. Hartnell recorded 67 points, which includes career highs in goals (37) and assists (30). Playing Along side Jaromir Jagr surely did help him out, as he was the main shooter on that line, but his numbers could mirror last season with the experience of playing along side Jagr and Giroux.

Jakub Voracek: Voracek might be the most interesting player that the Flyers have under contract control. The Flyers’ forward is entering his 5th season in the NHL as a 23-year old. In 78 games, Voracek was able to match his 81 game season total back in 2009-2010 when he was a part of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Voracek is the closest player to Jaromir Jagr that the Flyers have besides Giroux. With the absence of Jagr, look for Voracek to get a chance to thrive on the first line as well as the power play.

This line could easily turn into one of the best in the NHL. The skill level of all three players could pay big dividends for a team that might need to outscore its’ opponents to win games. The chemistry between the players is even better. Giroux and Hartnell are very close friends and they have took to Twitter to recruit Voracek to join their line.

All in all, the Flyers’ could have one of the most dangerous lines this season. With the first preseason game around the corner, the Flyer find themselves blessed with a talented team.
