After dominating the Calgary Flames last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins (2-0) will look to end their three-game Western Canada road swing with a victory against the Edmonton Oilers, who will open their season tonight.

The big news tonight is that Evgeni Malkin will not play. Malkin was injured at some point during the second period of last night’s game, and only played in power play situations of the third period.

The Penguins said Malkin was “sore and tired,” but there seems to be something wrong with one of his legs/feet.

Root Sports’ Bob Errey “sees concern on Malkin’s face during pre-game skate, Geno skating gingerly, must be sore, testing whatever’s bothering him,” according to a tweet by Hockey Buzz’s John Toperzer.

Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will not start tonight. This will be Pittsburgh’s third game in four nights, so backup Brent Johnson will get the nod.

Defenseman Brooks Orpik also will not play tonight. He hasn’t yet played this season, but is “improving” according to Dan Bylsma.

Last year’s no. 1 overall draft pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will make his NHL debut tonight.

I can’t give the team’s line combinations at the moment since Malkin was declared out just minutes ago.

Game time is 9 PM ET.

Let’s Go Pens.
