- Penguins goaltenders Gilles Meloche and Roberto Romano were credited with the first combined shutout in team history; the Pens beat the Vancouver Canucks, 6-0 (Ken Wregget and Tom Barrasso shared the only other combined shutout on February 28, 1993 against Boston)
1899
- the Duquesne Gardens opened for public skating and one night later featured a hockey game between the Pittsburgh Athletic Club and Western University of Pittsburgh (University of Pittsburgh)
